Boston-Thurmond United (BTU)

Boston-Thurmond United strives to create a vibrant neighborhood that honors its rich history and expands the opportunities for safe and healthy lifestyles; quality, affordable housing at all income levels; neighborhood schools that provide the highest educational outcomes, starting at birth; and access to jobs and economic well-being.

Boston-Thurmond Community Network (BTCN)

Boston-Thurmond Community Network is the sustaining and organizing arm of Boston-Thurmond United, with staff and board to ensure long-term stability.

Boston-Thurmond Community Engagement Roundtable (BTCER)

The Boston-Thurmond Community Engagement Roundtable provides the resident voice and leadership to BTU.

Wake Forest University (WFU)

Members of Wake Forest University's Journalism Program and Communication and Philosophy departments have taught classes geared to helping develop this project. The project has also been supported by the Wake Forest Humanities Institute, Office for Civic and Community Engagement, the Office of the Dean, and the Mellon Foundation.

Winston-Salem State University (WSSU)

Faculty specializing in geography, urban design and history are teaching classes focused on aspects of Boston-Thurmond and its history.

The Spatial Justice Studio at the Center for Design Innovation (SJS)

The Spatial Justice Studio (SJS) seeks to establish and sustain inte-rinstitutional, interdisciplinary, and inter-sectoral programs that bring faculty, students and the community together across disciplines into diverse experiences to develop meaningful solutions to issues related to spatial (in)justice. The SJS explores alternative possibilities for urban areas and ways of achieving more equitable urban futures through active research agendas, engaged teaching practices and community based participatory research which will lead to the creation/regeneration of equitable, functional and sustainable communities for all.
